Fanciful and melodic, occasionally striking and serious, the music of PianoTexas is back on campus this month.
The 2012 PianoTexas International Academy & Festival begins today on the TCU campus, highlighted by performances by world-recognized pianists along with concerts by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya and the legendary pianist/conductor Leon Fleisher.
This season marks the festival's 31st year, with a focus on the music of Franz Schubert.
Guest artists arriving to perform solo concerts, while also serving as faculty in daily sessions with aspiring young professionals, include Yeul Eum Son, Malcolm Bilson, Inon Barnatan, Simone Pedroni, Paul Badura-Skoda, Akiko Ebi and Kathleen Jacobson Fleisher.
"This is an event not to be missed by anyone who loves and appreciates fine music, especially since daily recitals by non-professionals are free and all events, including master classes with the guest artists, are open for the public to observe," said Tamas Ungar, the festival's founder and director.
Individual tickets are sold at the door a half-hour prior to each event or can be purchased for any session at www.pianotexas.org or by calling 817-257-7456. General admission for each concert is $25, $20 for seniors and music teachers, $12.50 for students. Masterclasses and workshops are free and open to the public.
